Membership is annual and members are invited to renew each year on the anniversary of your last purchase, unless otherwise stated.
What it feels like to be part of The Hidden Parlor
The Hidden Parlor is experienced more than it is explained.
It is a private society where American Mahjong, conversation, and time spent in good company naturally come together.
Some arrive knowing the game well. Others arrive simply curious.
Both find their place here.
A Typical Visit
A visit to The Hidden Parlor might begin with a reserved table and familiar faces already gathered.
Tiles are set. Coffee is poured. Conversation carries easily between hands.
Along one wall, a row of lockers, reserved for East members and marked in gold with their names, offers a quiet sense of arrival.
Some games are planned. Others come together with ease as members arrive.
Not every visit revolves around play.
Some stop in between commitments. Some stay for hours. Some come simply to be in the room.
There is no single way to spend time at the Parlor.
If You’ve Never Played Mahjong
No prior experience is needed.
Many members begin with little familiarity with the game. Instruction is available, and the pace of learning is part of the enjoyment.
It is not uncommon to arrive curious and leave looking forward to returning.
Beyond the Table
American Mahjong sits at the heart of The Hidden Parlor, bringing members together and shaping the feel of the room.
Membership is annual, designed to foster a sense of community and belonging. Members arrive with varying levels of experience and return for the game, the atmosphere, and the company. Mahjong is the foundation, but beyond the tiles, it is the comfort of having a place that is always there.
The Hidden Parlor is not an event venue. It is a clubhouse for its members. At times, the experience may extend beyond the table to include member retreats at thoughtfully selected accommodations, guest evenings, floral design nights, and select collaborations. Occasionally, members may reserve the Parlor for private gatherings, arranged with care for the club and its community.
Just as meaningful are the moments in between, conversations after the final tile and a second cup of coffee that quietly turns into an hour.
Why Membership
The Parlor is intentionally private.
Membership allows the space to remain comfortable, familiar, and never crowded. It ensures that tables are available, the atmosphere remains consistent, and the experience feels considered rather than transactional.
It is not a place you pass through.
It is a place you return to.
Our Home
The Hidden Parlor is being thoughtfully planned for downtown Andover Massachusetts. Our specific address is disclosed to members and serious member inquiries.
We are currently working toward an opening in August 2026.
As with any carefully considered space, final details may evolve as plans come together. Members will be kept informed as milestones approach.
In advance of opening, members may occasionally be invited to small gatherings and collaborations within the community as the Society begins to take shape.
